UK Mountain Cats was established in 2014 to connect University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky students through outreach and mentorship programs in order to create lasting mutually beneficial relationships between Kentucky students. Our Vision is a community of University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky students working together for a more successful Appalachia. Contact us to find out more!
What We Do
Mountain Cats runs three major programs throughout the year. The first is a year-long pen pal program that assigns one student from the David School in Eastern Kentucky to one University of Kentucky student and allows them to exchange letters throughout the school year culminating in an event here in Lexington where the pen pals meet. The second is a series of weekend trips to volunteer and learn in Appalachia. The third is a week long spring break trip, in partnership with UK Alternative Service Breaks, to the David School where students participate in classroom activities and service projects at the school while learning about Appalachian life and culture. We also have educational programs on various intriguing and thought-provoking topics related to Appalachia every three weeks in Whitehall 245. Check the Calendar tab for our next event!
